Knife Sharpening or Replacement? Part 4
What if your knives are not worth sharpening? What are your alternatives?
I will always give you a free estimate of the cost to sharpen your knives or tools. Most knives can be re-sharpened for $7.00 to $10.00.
Almost every knife (or tool) is worth sharpening if:
1. The blade is not bent, damaged, broken, or excessively rusted.
2. The handle is not damaged or missing rivets.
3. The blade is high-quality steel that really holds and edge well.
In some cases, even damaged knives are worth repairing and sharpening if they are part of a set, have sentimental value or just "fit" your hand!
If you really like a knife - if it is the knife that you reach for most of the time - then it is worth resharpening. This is true even if it is mismatched to the rest of your knives!
But - what if your dull knife ISN'T worth resharpening? Here are two options:
First, Randy sells NEW knives. I don't sell expensive, $250.00 "designer" knives. I sell great quality knives at reasonable prices, that is, $20.00 to $50.00 per knife.
Do you need to replace a damaged slicer? Is your chef knife pretty "wimpy"? Has your paring knife been abused and needs to be replaced? For as little as $25.00 many of these knifes can be replaced with high-quality knives that are a joy to own and use.
Randy has purchasing accounts with all of the top brand knives. You can choose from knives with stainless steel or carbon steel blades. You have your choice of wood, synthetic, or stainless steel handles. There are also kitchen accessories like scissors, forks, ladles and spatulas to match.
Best of all, EACH new knife that Randy sells has been inspected, sharpened, and honed. NO knives are sold "as is". You will receive a new knife that is ready to use!
Second, Randy sells RECONDITIONED and re-sharpened knives. I like knives! So I often pick up mismatched knives that can be reconditioned. Then I clean the blades and sharpen the knives in my "spare time". I also sand and recondition the wooden handles. As a result, I often have dozens of reconditioned knives for sale from $5.00 to $10.00.
This means I likely have a reconditioned knife that will match or compliment your set. It may be cheaper to buy this reconditioned knife than sharpen your old knife!
Need to replace a broken knife? Need to fill your knife block after a knife has "gone missing"? Just want an extra paring knife or santuko? Check out my constantly changing selection of reconditioned knives - many for sale for less than the cost of sharpening your old knives.
The best way to evaluate your choices is to schedule a Group Sharpening Party. Not only will Randy sharpen your knives at a 20% discount, but you can examine the new and reconditioned knives to fill in any gaps in your kitchen selection. See the Group Discount section at RandysSuperSharp.com
